Dynamic of a river mouth morphology is a unique and complex process, owe to the complex interaction between the river flow, wave, and tide. Along the southern coast of Java, Indonesia, waves are violent, dominated by swell waves from the Indian Ocean. Tidal range is quite high, around 2 meters during spring tide.

Most of the rivers flowing to this coast bend their downstream channel towards the dominant longshore current direction (westward). This deflection might lead to a cyclic river mouth migration process. One example could be seen from the google earth engine timelapse video.
